Tourism supports more than 131,000 direct tourism jobs in Maryland with a payroll of $4.7 billion. According to Tourism Economics, tourism is the 10th largest private sector employer in the State, supporting 131,000+ direct full-time equivalency jobs in 2011 in leisure and hospitality, retail, transportation, and other sectors impacted by visitor spending. For these employees, tourism jobs provided $4.7 billion in wages and salaries in 2011.
For over 50 years, the Maryland Tourism Coalition has represented and united varied segments of tour and travel, bringing together the entire industry to enhance business growth and to promote the development of Maryland tourism.
